Goal: add one useful detail to your task tracker without replacing existing records.
Suppose the team wants to record a task's priority. Decide what answers should be allowed before adding the field. A small choice list such as Low, Normal, and High is easier to use consistently than free text.
Do not mark a new field required until you have considered what should happen to records that do not have a value. Read validation messages instead of repeatedly submitting the same change.
Adding a field to a table is not the same as choosing to show it on every view. In Build, inspect the relevant table, detail, or form view and select the fields that should appear.
Use sample records to check that the priority can be entered and displayed. Check access separately if some information is private.
Use numbers for quantities, a yes/no field for a binary state, dates for calendar days, and links for related records. Display formatting alone does not turn text into validated structured information.
Before hiding or deleting a field, inspect views, filters, and rules that depend on it. Hiding and deleting have different consequences; deletion is not a routine cleanup shortcut.
